What is Music'n'Motion
Music 'n' Motion was set up by John Haythornthwaite and Rachel Lund and
has been in operation since September 1998. Since then they have directed
over twenty sell out courses throughout London and the UK. This year there
will be two five-day Performing Arts Courses for children aged 6-11 years
old at the Royal Academy of Music, Marylebone, London. During the week
the children will focus on a dynamic approach to music-making, combining
the key aspects of music, singing, dance & drama whilst developing
co-ordination, confidence and creativity
and having fun! The course
will end with an informal presentation of each week's activities in the
Royal Academy Dance Studio.

The Workshops
Singing
During these classes children will learn a variety of songs and will
focus on posture, breathing, resonance, pitch and rhythmic understanding
as well as tone quality, musical shaping, listening games and part-singing.
Creative Music
Through various musical styles and techniques children come together
to compose on a wide variety of percussion, keyboards or their own instrument.
The workshop enables children to develop many skills including pitch,
rhythm, listening, improvising and imagination.
Dance
The children will work on a variety of dance styles starting each session
with energetic and fun exercises. They will be encouraged to use their
imagination in choreographing their own moves whilst developing their
physical fitness and coordination.
Drama
Through the exploration of drama-based
games, children learn how to develop their skills in vocal projection
and communication. They will also use improvisation techniques to develop
confidence whilst having fun and play.
Orchestra
During the course of the week all children are involved in the Music
'n' Motion Orchestra, playing on their own instrument, percussion or keyboard.
They will learn about tempo, pulse and dynamics whilst having fun working
as a team.
Visiting Artists
Throughout the week the children have the opportunity to meet and work
with professional musicians and performers from leading Orchestras and
top West End shows.
Performance Platform
At the end of the day children come together to share a piece, song,
dance, poem or even a joke with the rest of class. This gives them the
opportunity to develop their confidence as a performer and pick up some
help tips along the way.

The Seven Cs

Music 'n' Motion believe that the Seven C's are needed not only for musical
and dramatic performances, but are relevant attributes that provide your
child with increased self awareness and confidence.
